WHAT IS 4K?
The New standard in video
4K is a new resolution standard designed for digital cinema and computer graphics. It has following advantages: higher image definition quality, more detailed picture, better fast-action and larger projection surface visibility.
WHY IS IT CALLED 4K?
4K format was named because it has 4000 pixels horizontal resolution approximately. Meanwhile, standard 1080p and 720p resolutions were named because of its vertical resolution. The new standard renders more than four times higher image definition than 1080p resolutions for example.
HDR means high dynamic range. You might have heard that expression before, because it first appeared as a popular technique in photography and is now common on smartphones.
In home entertainment, HDR is very much the same thing. The dynamic range really means the achievable difference between bright highlights and dark shadows. In the real world, your eyes are very good and balancing out highs and lows and 4K HDR does exactly that: it brings realism by being able to produce visuals to better reflect what you'd see with your own eyes.
For televisions, like the Sony Z9D, HDR goes hand-in-hand with 4K, resulting in a TV that will show you incredible detail and this wider range of realistic colours. For example, you might have the brilliance of the setting sun on the horizon, and the foreground painted in rich colours, all realistically balanced.
The result of 4K HDR is brilliantly detailed images, with lots of clarity, increased contrast and better colours than have previously been available on your television. For those creating content, 4K HDR allows movies to looks closer to the director's original vision, because television are able to display much more than ever before.
what to expect
4K TVs are hurtling towards HDTV-level prices at incredible speed and content production in ultra HD is accelerating as well. New UHD content started off more slowly than the television technology that supports it but now the creation of new shows, movies and other programming in 4K resolution is moving along much faster, particularly in 2016. The latest and best sources of content are still coming from streaming media sources on the internet but a growing body of broadcast 4K content and now 4K ultra HD Blu-ray disc movies are making their appearance every month.
For the most part, what you’re going to get the most bang for your buck from will still either be streaming online content from sources like Netflix or from media set-top box content sources that are either specific to certain TV models or generically compatible with nearly any 4K TV. However, 4K entertainment from the Blu-ray ultra HD format is definitely expanding nicely and genuine broadcast 4K movies and shows are already appearing in some markets and might be available in your area.
